Reflection#2

A few weeks ago, I was waiting for the train when suddenly an elderly lady fell on the escalator. At the train station in the city center of the rush hour there were a lot of people who saw this accident and only three people ran up to this lady: me, my friend and man. This lady was in shock, she had a lot of bags with her, we could not get her out of the stairs, and all people just looked at it but nobody moved to help us.Unfortunately, more and more often I meet with the fact that the other person is invisible to some people. When someone needs help, everyone just looks instead of doing something useful. I read the article recently and I have the same opinion that we are in a sense programmed to help others that helping others is rooted in us, so why do not we pay attention to others, and when we see something, why we do not help? Most people feel anonymous and think that someone else will help. Others think that they can do something wrong in helping others, that they will be discredited in front of everyone. Some people also think only about themselves, not being aware of other people's lives.I hope that this problem will be smaller and we will notice more than just the tip of our nose.

  1. There has been famous psychological experiments investigating this problem called "the Bystander Effect". E.g. whether we help others or not in a public place depends on how many people there are - ther more people are present, the less likely we are to help. You may want to read more about it.
